Lama Mansour Fakhoury was born in Beirut Lebanon in 1971. In 1994, she obtains a master’s degree in industrial economics from the Sorbonne University, Paris, a field she proceeds to work in for over 10 years. It was not until 2017 that she discovers her intense passion for the arts when she begins attending painting courses at Bassam Kahwagi’s workshop, while completing her master’s degree in “Critique d’art et curatoriat” at Saint Joseph University, Beirut.“I have always been interested in the figurative form of painting and especially in portraits and human representation. Starting with a series of paintings depicting famous people, I have quickly shifted to a free representation of human faces. My interest goes to aesthetics in terms of sensitivity, not in terms of beauty. Through faces, I try to bring out all the anguish, the misery and the depth of human turmoil. I fragment faces to reveal the various facets of men, going beyond the dictates of beauty, in quest of the truth.” “My inspiration in the art scene goes from Egon Schiele to Francis Bacon, as these artists have depicted the inner human condition in their paintings through body distortion and broken lines as in Schiele’s work, and Bacon’s spasms curves”.
